Modalities

DEEP TISSUE

  • Purposeful and deliberate focus on key areas of stiffness and pain
  • Slow, direct, and sometimes intense pressure focusing on the deeper layers of muscle
  • Keep breathing pace deep, continuous, and steady

SWEDISH

  • Soft long kneading strokes
  • Light and rhythmic manipulation of the superficial tissues
  • Can be relaxing and energizing

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

  • Fascia is the thin connective tissue that encases our muscles, organs, and everything in our body.  When it starts to constrict it can cause restrictions in range of motion as well as cause quite a bit of pain.
  • Very slow and methodical massage where the therapist sinks into the tissue and allows it to release on its own at its own pace.
  • Breathing is very important to this therapy, as it take patience, lots of oxygen, and time to allow for change.

TRIGGER POINT

  • Highly irritable (trigger)points are found throughout the body in tight and stiff muscle and produce pain when engaged.
  • Often occurring because of repetitive/over use of muscles as well as injuries and mental stress, there is not just one factor that causes trigger points; any thing and everything we do can result in them.
  • Breath is important in Trigger point therapy because we pay direct attention to the sensitive points for extended moments of time to allow the muscle to resist and then relax.  There is often referred pain in other parts of the body that are directly affected by the tightness patterns in the musculature.

REFLEXOLOGY

  • Reflexology can be done on the feet or the hands.
  • The belief is that certain spots on the feet and hands correlate to certain organs in the body, and by applying pressure to said spots healing may happen and the general flow of things in the body may be positively influenced.
  • Reflexology is generally stress relieving, relaxing, and can encourage a good night's rest.
